MS related FAQs...

Hello friends and fellow MS aspirants.. I'm writing this blog so as to help you make your decision about MS more wisely and with confidence. I have tried to put down some very common questions that we all face when thinking about Masters or going to US in general. This also includes some of the very common mistakes that I have committed and which you should be careful about.

Please keep in mind that this is just my personal experience and about things that I did before going to US..

I have divided this particular FAQs into two parts.
1. Pre GRE stuff
2. Post GRE stuff

Have a happy reading and I hope that this proves useful.

Note: please tell me if you have any more questions so that I can update it here..

  3. 1.What are the "total" criterias taken into consideratioin by the US universities for MS ?? What is the weightage of each of them ? ( Ive heard that if one scores 1400+ , then MIT/Standford & others of same level are "fixed"....is it ??

2.What @ Scholarships ?? How to get them?? Again, what are the criterias for it ?? How much economic benefit do they give, i mean the money ?? How much would it cost if one has to do MS without Scholarships ?? What @ u?? Do u have any ??

  4. @ Lokesh:
    1. Generally universities take into consideration all your academics during UG and your GRE score. It covers lots of areas like CGPA, research papers if any, projects, etc. A lot also depends on your SOP and Recos. Secondly some universities do consider your co-curricular and extra curricular activities.. There is nothing like "fixed". If you have 1350 but great acads n Publications to your resume, even MIT n others will accept you. There is no fixed criteria.

    2. Scholarships for MS is rare these days. You can get for PhD though. You need to impress d prof with your work so that he can grant you a fee waiver. That depends on individual and no criteria for that. D costing for MS depends a lot on universities. Unis in Cali are costlier and again Private ones are more costly.. It varies from say 18lacs to 60 or even 70 lacs for completing your masters..
